Open solenoids
A characteristic feature of open lifting solenoids is that the solenoid body (yoke) only partially encloses the solenoid coil (exciter winding). A distinction is made between pulling and pushing methods of operation, corresponding to the direction of power output from the armature. The linear movement from the lift starting position to the lift end position is achieved by the effects of electromagnetic force. The solenoid is reset either via external forces or a spring
